Women accused of killing and burying husband granted bond by Florida judge

A Florida judge has granted bail to a woman who was accused of killing and burying her husband five years ago. According to reports, she buried the body under a fire pit that she built in the backyard.

38-year-old Laurie Shaver has been behind bars since her arrest in September, years after the 2015 death of her 36-year-old husband, Michael Shaver, as per the report of WOFL, the Fox-owned station in Orlando. Michael Shaver was a Disney World mechanic.

Court records show that she pleaded not guilty to the crime.

The station reported that Lake County Judge Richard Singletary said, “The standard bond schedule for the Fifth Circuit is $50,000 for the charge of murder in the second-degree.” On Thursday night, the Lake County jail released Shaver.

Allegedly, she has been ordered to have absolutely no contact with her husband’s family and to wear an ankle monitor.

Shaver’s arrest came three years after deputies found her husband’s remains after digging under the fire pit of their Clermont home. It was determined that the victim had been shot in the head once.

At that time, Laurie Shaver was dating Travis Filmer. Filmer is the father of her two youngest children.

WOFL also reported that at a bond meeting, Filmer revealed to a prosecutor that he never asked her how the body ended up in the backyard. “No sir, not with her,” he said, as per the news station. “I specifically stated we don’t need to talk about it. It’s none of my business.”
