The coronavirus pandemic seems to have changed our lives for good. People are scared, anxious, and stressed. Too stressed, to be exact. The “new reality” is rich in strict measures, orders, and guidelines, and the most controversial among them is the use of face masks.
Many people suspect their effectiveness, and even more of them refuse to wear them because they found them highly uncomfortable.
However, in some parts of the country, these masks are obligatory whenever one enters a local business. This policy often enrages people, who even confront store employees, and the Internet is rich in videos of such incidents.
People joked that she looks like the zombie from the Will Smith movie “ I AM Legend”, so she was eventually named “ “Zombie Karen”.
Namely, the woman turned into a raging lunatic after she was not allowed to enter the bar. Many claims that her reaction resulted from the rejection to enter the place without a mask.
After the video was shared, others commented that the staff probably didn’t let her in because she was drunk.
Regardless, she started behaving erratic, slamming herself up against the door, and then got a running start and rushed towards the door at full force.
After people called paramedics, they arrived with police who arrested her.
Twitter user @TannerKali_, claims that she has been at the scene at the moment, and explained that the woman was trying to bite people in the bar:
“ Gonna go ahead and say I grabbed this lady under her arms so she didn’t hurt herself. She refused to go outside and not only did she start throwing herself on the ground, but she was trying to bite people too. I was helping. Don’t question why I stepped in.”
Yet, Twitter user @enclave2020 added:
“ I almost got concerned until she used the N-word. As soon as she said that my sympathy and empathy went right out the window. Sorry, I no longer cared if she was on something or needed help.”
A lot of videos of violent, obnoxious, middle-aged white women demanding to speak to managers, calling the police, or inciting violence on Black people have been shared on Twitter, under the #KarensGoneWild.
This term was popularized by Black Twitter to call out racist and abusive behaviour, and Dictionary.com defines it as follows:
“ Karen is a mocking slang term for an entitled, obnoxious, middle-aged white woman. Especially as featured in memes, Karen is generally stereotyped as having a blonde bob haircut, asking to speak to retail and restaurant managers to voice complaints or make demands, and being a nagging, often divorced mother from Generation X.”
