Something bizarre happens when you reach adulthood. You become a bit more self-involved, caring only about your life, your career, your finances, your relationships, and your love life. Somehow, your family seems to fall by the wayside, which is unfortunate, because you probably never would’ve made it to adulthood without them.
A few people who feel that pain more than anyone else are grandparents. As time goes on, the matriarchs and patriarchs of our families watch their children grow up and move out, watch their grandchildren do the same, and most heartbreakingly of all, watch the loves of their lives succumb to old age and slip away. This often leads to an extremely lonely existence.
But with one visit or phone call, we have the power to add a little bit of light to their lives. They surely deserve that and more.
Don’t be surprised if this leaves you crying…
Give your grandparents, parents, or elderly friends a call. They are people, full of love and laughter, that should never be forgotten. It would mean the world to them, and it would do a world of good for you, too. After all, no one gives better advice than the wise people who have already been through it all.
