A password saved a Michigan girl from a possible abduction when a man tried to lure her into his car at her school bus stop.
The anonymous 12-year-old was on her way to school at 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning when a stranger pulled over and told her to “get in the car.”
The little girl recalled the scary incident to WXYZ. She said:
“I just froze for a second and then in my mind, I said, ‘run, run, run.’ In my mind, I said you don’t want to get in the car because something bad is going to happen and you’re never going to see your family again.”
Luckily, the student and her mom set up safety measures to protect the child from stranger danger. So when the man told the girl to get in his black Chevy, she asked for the password.
The mother said she got the idea on Facebook or the news. She explained:
“I don’t remember if I saw it in Facebook or in the news, somewhere I saw it was important to have some type of a password so that when you have to send somebody else to get (your child) they know that it is you who’s sending them.”
The mom said after the incident, she got a frightening call when her daughter explained what happened. Thanks to the secret password, the little was able to escape the kidnapping.
The Macomb Township family is now urging other kids to set up safety passwords after the terrifying ordeal. The 12-year-old said:
“Stay safe and put a password with your family and don’t ever talk to strangers, or ever get in their cars.”
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a white male suspect believed to be in his 20’s.
He was driving a four-door Chevy sedan with heavily tinted windows at the time of the incident.
