Celeb Says He Doesn’t Want Unvaccinated People Going To See His Movies

While Hollywood is pushing Americans to go back into the theaters despite the continued threat of COVID-19, actor Sean Penn has a different opinion. During his appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Penn explained that his new movie, Flag Day, is only playing inside movie theaters, but those who have not yet received their COVID-19 vaccine, Penn says, should skip his movie and wait for it to be released on streaming services rather than put themselves and others at risk by going to the theater without getting the shot first.

Penn, during a recent CNN interview, said that being unvaccinated is like “pointing a gun in somebody’s face.” This Hollywood star believes that the COVID-19 vaccine should be mandatory because it is so effective at protecting people from death and serious illness associated with the disease responsible for the pandemic.

As for his new movie, Flag Day, Penn wants the unvaccinated to stay home and wait for the flick to appear on streaming services rather than going to the movie theater near them.

“I’d ask that, as much as I want people all to go to the theater, I really only want people who are vaccinated and safe to themselves and each other to go,” he said on Seth Meyer’s show. “And it will stream.”

During his CNN appearance, Penn said, “I do believe that everyone should get vaccinated. I believe it should be mandatory, like turning your headlights on in the car at night.”

He also said, “I have some areas of strong belief in the Second Amendment. But I think that you need to recognize how, with something like this, you can’t go around pointing a gun in somebody’s face, which is what it is when people are unvaccinated.”

While appearing on CNN, Penn was interviewed by the network’s anchor, Michael Smerconish.

Penn has paused working on his Watergate drama called “Gaslit,” which he stars in along with Julia Roberts. Penn has refused to return to work after the movie was put on pause because of the COVID-19 pandemic because he doesn’t “want to feel complicit” in letting people return to normal without them receiving the vaccine.

“I’ll go back when I can be assured that 100 percent of the crew has gotten vaccinated,” he confirmed.

As for Hollywood’s slow return, Penn blames the delay on “weak leadership in some of the unions that are too concerned about some of the fringe constituencies within and not concerned enough about common sense.”

Penn doubled down on not wanting the unvaccinated to go to the movie theater to see his latest movie.

“Eventually, it will stream, and that’s a better time for the unvaccinated to see it,” he said, even though he admitted that his hard stance would “probably offend them out of that choice.”
