Katelyn Cicalese was taking a shower in her San Tan Valley, Arizona home when she suffered a seizure and hit her head on the side of the tub.
She fell under the faucet, and the water was running.
Luckily, her son, Salvatore, was there and he saved the day! The amazing part of this story is that Sal is just five years old!
Shorty after Katelyn had put Sal and his two-month-old sister to bed, Sal heard a strange thud in the bathroom.
Sal went to check on his mom, and that was when he found her unconscious and bleeding in the bathtub.
Worried that his mother may be dying, Sal grabbed his baby sister, wrapped her in a blanket, and ran to his neighbor’s house for help!
What five-year-old has the presence of mind to do that?!
Sal told his neighbor, Jessica Penoyer, that his mom had died and asked if she could take care of them!
Penoyer quickly called 911 and help soon arrived. Rescuers found Cicalese unconscious in the shower under the faucet.
It has been a month since the incident and Katelyn has recovered and is back at home.
Cicalese says she knows that Sal saved her life – she could have drowned if he hadn’t acted so quickly.
Sal’s quick thinking has earned him the nickname “Super Sal, ” and he was honored for bravery by the Rural Metro Fire Department.
Sal was given a patch, an honorary firefighter certificate, a shirt, and a helmet!
