Anyone who’s ever participated in an antiques auction will tell you that bidding on an item requires the willingness to take a chance. Often times, appraisers will over (or under) value antique items, and if you don’t take the time to inspect whatever you’re bidding on thoroughly, it may also come with some surprises, too.
Take the experience of Massachusetts native Phil LeClerc, for example. One day, after stopping at an auction that was being held in the nearby town of Holbrook, he placed the winning bid on an old antique desk – with his only intention being to simply place the beautiful item somewhere in his home.
