California Democratic Governor Newsom ‘worried,’ says recall likely to qualify

California Gov. Gavin Newsome said he worried about the effort to recall him as governor and acknowledged the motion would likely qualify for the ballot.

The Democratic governor made his statements Tuesday on “The View”, saying that he believes this recall campaign will have enough signatures to make the state ballot.

“Am I worried about it,” Newsom asked host Whoopi Goldberg. “Of course, I’m worried about it. The nature of these things, the up or down question, the zero-sum nature of the question is challenging … so we’re taking it seriously.”

The deadline for the recall effort is March 17. Should the recall motion reach the ballot, it would trigger a special election which would likely be held in November.

Newsom also said he had faced six recall campaigns in the past 25 months.

Newsom made headlines earlier this year during the pandemic when he attended a dinner at a French restaurant while not following COVID-19 protocols he himself set forth for the state.
