Lewes Tulip Celebration gets a colorful start

While many tulips showed their colors in time for the Lewes Tulip Celebration, Lewes in Bloom organizers say the week of April 5-9 will be peak time.

White tulips are among the hundreds blooming in flowerbeds at Zwaanendael Park.

Marcos Salaverria, Lewes Historical Society director of education, leads a History in Bloom tour through downtown gardens during the Lewes Tulip Celebration. The tour also included history of the First Town in the First State.

Vivid red tulips fill a flowerbed in downtown Lewes.

Tulips throughout Lewes, planted in 20 gardens, are a colorful treat for the eyes.

Visitors take a stroll through the Lewes Historical Society complex. Nine of the 10 buildings in the complex were moved from other locations in Sussex County.

R&L Liquors, on Second Street in downtown Lewes, has its windows painted for the Lewes Tulip Celebration.

Daffodils are in full bloom at the Lewes Historical Society complex.
