California Mom Goes Home to put away Groceries After Son Shoots Her Daughter

An arrest has been made after a California mother allowed her 14-year-old son to allegedly shoot his half-sister accidentally.

In San Bernardino, Veronica Pyatt, 37, the teen, and Pyatt’s 20-month-old daughter were in a vehicle. In the back seat of the car, the teen was handling a loaded firearm. The toddler was wounded in the upper right leg when the gun was discharged.

Despite the incredibly loud shooting, she kept driving home. According to her, she didn’t realize her daughter had been shot.

As the teen took the little girl out of the vehicle and disposed of the firearm and other evidence, mom unloaded groceries before learning of her daughter’s injury.

Once all three of them were inside the house, the 14-year-old finally told his mother the little girl had been wounded. Hospital staff called the police after Pyatt brought the little girl to the hospital. Her injuries weren’t life-threatening and she later received treatment at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Pyatt was arrested on multiple felony charges along with her son. The charges were not specified.

California Police say Child and Family Services conducted their own investigation.
